Sew Trendy Retreat | The Farewell

When photographers lay in their beds after days of testing their skills, ideas begin to boil. They reflect on the images they’ve captured, the moments they missed, and the techniques they want to try. So, as the rested photographers woke on Saturday, a vigor circulated throughout the Air BnB. That morning was the last chance session of the Sew Trendy Retreat, and the group planned to execute each concept to perfection.

The Sew Trendy staff had already begun their adventures. The morning began with a truck parking mishap that required a tow, and brought tears of laughter to fatigued eyes. The end of the journey meant caution had been thrown to the wind, and a sense of accomplishment was brimming underneath the hard-working minds. The last session was prepped, and a night of celebration was planned that included an exclusive shopping spree as reward to crossing the finish line.

The restlessness of the group had an outlet within the morning theme, Wild Things. The set was the Park City mountains, where the Sundance Film Festival makes its home. This was an uphill wilderness shoot, with secret coves that Utah famously provides. Maternity, child, male, and non-maternity models were dressed in the best of Sew Trendy, and readied to bring fiction to reality. This was the photographer’s time to step outside the box, get a little risky, and let their natural talents shine.

Along the trail, Robin Hood climbed trees to get a better look at the lovely maid Marian. Striking male model, Derek Jolley, embodied the handsome vigilante from the tales. Maid Marian, modeled by Crystal Hatfield, did just as we’d all expect. She became the beautiful centerpiece to the Sherwood Forest. Yellow flowers dusted the ground underneath the flowing Odessa gown. The oversized flowing sleeves, and off-the-shoulder elegant style rested on Crystal’s figure, while the Ivy crown upon her head contrasted beautifully to the gold dress.

Another famous couple was hidden in the lush wilderness at the next romantic set. Romeo, modeled by Easton Smith, gazed lovingly at Juliet, who wore a sheer lace ensemble that cascaded along the overgrown forest floor. Model Madisen Andersen’s soft features embodied the youth and beauty of the star-crossed heroine. Her gorgeous look was created with two Sew Trendy pieces; the detailed Juliet robe wrapped around the Jessica gown, both in Ivory, and combined for a brilliantly royal aesthetic. The Melitta crown she wore gave hint to the opposing status of the Shakespearean characters.

Farther into the mountains, a child’s
story was taking place. Sidney Best modeled
a more sprite-like version of the popular tale, Red Riding Hood. This time though, it wasn’t
a wolf who played the villain. Instead, a fox cuddled into Little Red’s arms. The delicate red capelet draped over the ivory Cybelle gown. A floral and antler crown gave this set an ethereal twist, reminiscent of tales of fairies and the Celtic side. This set was by far the most creative and inspired of the Sew Trendy Retreat adventure, and the photographers took advantage the image with inspiring inventiveness.

The next leading lady and partnered hero portrayed Snow White and the Huntsman. Selby Oldroyd’s dashing smolder complemented Erica Robbins dark and beautiful features. Erica wore the deep wine Minefred gown with the Mira Crown. The floating movement of the sheer fabric and high-quality draping dazzled the photographers, causing a frenzy of clicks amongst the white tree trunks.

Within a grotto of plant life and greenery, Alice sat on a thick-mossy chair. The Alice gown spilled over the sides with blue rain and ivory fabric. The curved ruffles of the skirt formed a hi-low structure underneath the empire waist peasant style top. Sidney Ulberg bright blue eyes shone on her joyful and serene face, while the photographers rushed against the ticking of the clock to get countless images out of this dynamic set.
What is a wild photoshoot without three mischievous witches? Sew Trendy thought the same, and created the looks to match the ideal. This non-maternity session was playful and alluring, as Briana Hulme, Amy Niedens, and Kotryna modeled with dedication to their characters. The gold Gretchen gown, the moss Olivia dress, and the wine Kaitlyn, combined for an impactful storyline. Each witch wore stunning crowns to complement their apparel, while the on-set dynamics became the talked about shoot of the retreat. Each enchanting garment carried individuality, yet remained united in one cohesive bewitching set.

The last sessions became the curtain call to the photo-heavy escape. Two maternity Goddesses brought ancient Greek lore to the environment, building the illusion of the powerful Mt. Olympus and the rulers that stood upon it. The gorgeous model Carly donned the sleek Hera gown. The fitted gown flooded around her feet, while the sheer cape glided behind her. Amber enchanted in the layered Narcissa gown. She showed her growing baby-bump courageously in the full-split skirt, and carried the confidence of creation. Both ladies displayed the proud beauty the dresses call for, and showcased the elegant tossing fabric of the gowns. Feminine strength was the rightful cap to the Sew Trendy photo sessions, as the group was exhilarated by the principle.

Happily-tired photographers made their way down the mountain with their cameras in hand. An overflow of blissful accomplishment was oozing from their eyes. The photograph journey was over, and the rest of the day would be the prize exclusive to the retreat guests, earned by their willingness to push their potential to reach new heights.
Sew Trendy offered a warehouse tour, a rare opportunity to see the wizard behind the curtain. As the group showed interest in pieces, extreme discounts were offered. Some of which seemed like insanity with such incredible reduced prices, but was approved by Valerie Best with a gift-giving demeanor. Luxurious pieces were also given to the delight of the photographers, and a bit of wincing from the dress-makers; however, the good-natured give-away brought enough smiles to satisfy the hard-working staff.

Finally, a farewell dinner took place at the Wasatch Brewery. The photographers wore their pre-ordered cocktail dresses, and radiated the beauty of the models they had taken pictures of throughout the week. Sew Trendy footed the bill, drinks were sipped, and the joy of achievement was shared.
The Sew Trendy Retreat had been exactly what was planned. It wasn’t a vacation to lounge, and waist away. It was an obstacle course for photographers, a skill-enhancer for the entrepreneurs, and a world built for those who crave the chance to capture magic in their lenses. It may have been tough at times; but, as all photographers know, the endorphins of a well-groomed set carry a unique satisfaction. Laughter and peer bonding softened the creative waves, and opportunity became the soundtrack to the experience. Sew Trendy had provided a playground that photographers could claim, and because of that, a transcending story was told through skillfully obtained portraits.

Well done, Sew Trendy, and cheers to those in creative careers.
