How to Style Your Fall Maternity Photo Shoot

It’s that time of year where the boots are dragged from the back of the closet, dusted off, and donned with a sassy kick. It’s that fabulous season where intricate scarf-knots are practiced, and hat-head becomes a serious problem in the office. We are talking about Fall.

Depending on where you live, seasonal changes can be minor to drastic. From chilled-to-the-bone wind gusts to a light jacket breeze, each environment asks for different levels of weather conformity.  Yet, no matter the location you reside, Fall fashion has a few staples to look for in traditional styling. Sew Trendy considers seasonal changes as an opportunity to work with favorite pieces that have been buried under summer wear. With that, here is how to style your maternity session and take advantage of all Fall has to offer.

Here’s a base to remember in Fall photo sessions: it’s getting cold out there for a lot of us, but that doesn’t mean you have to suffer for fashion. In fact, the right styling can work to keep that body warm. Combat the cold, but look brilliant doing it.

Long sleeves aren’t excessive in this pre-winter season; instead, the style protects from the chill while looking fabulously romantic. So, don’t shy away from the extra fabric, just find the fit that shows off those beautiful curves, while keeping hypothermia at bay. The Emerlie with an extended train is a fine example of just that. This lovely mama-to-be might have felt the cold water pooling at her feet, but you wouldn’t know it with her styling choices. The sweetheart shape top and fitted long sleeves suit the look and temperature for the season. We’ll talk more about comfort and weather in a future blog, but today there’s more to see.

It’s not just the dress in this gorgeous picture we want you to note. The stunning maternity model blends into the environment, yet stands out as the centerpiece. There’s a few styling choices that made that happen. First, is the dreamy wine color that echoes the background hues. Second are her wavy locks. Her long hair shows a bit of a wild side, and her crown speaks to her natural aesthetic. That’s the piece that ties the look together. The Ivy floral crown gracefully aligns with Boho-fashion, and provides styling perfection. Thus bringing us to our first foray into Fall weather beauty, a Boho-sheek theme.

Boho-fashion is all about simplicity. A floral crown can link the gorgeous gown and outdoor backdrops to accomplish elegant-ease; which, is exactly what Boho-wear is meant to portray.

This mommy and me session, showcasing the gold Leyah gown and Amelia child dress, features the Mable crown. This incredible piece seems as if it was made straight from the trees within the background. Not only is that a stunningly sweet thought, the play on colors hints to a story before the picture was taken, creating a special moment of family connection.

Another way to style for Fall with the Mable Crown is with contrast in mind. Photographers can take the bold colors of the crown, pair it with a brilliant gown or a saucy Brick cocktail dress, and let the look pop against the neutral-hued days of Fall. A crown is a simple piece that speaks to the Boho goal of natural beau

Sometimes it’s those deep jewel tones against new fallen snow that will make a photographer sing with a furious storm of camera clicks. Just as the Noelle and Poinsettia crowns do in these wintery backdrops. These gorgeous mamas got it right by dressing for the season with their fur wraps, bold floral crowns, and red color gowns. Also, let us take a moment to drool over the styling of the Ivory lace Valerie gown and matching ivory Noelle crown set in front of a Fall colored backdrop.

Remember, stay warm in your photo-session. Your comfort will show in the final product, and your confidence will radiate in the image. When warmth can’t be found outside, search for it in your styling. It’s a pretty easy concept to accomplish with a wrap, but we’ll talk about that later (future blog hint shamelessly dropped for second time).

Let’s move along to our second styling theme: Fall glam. A little sparkle amongst a red and orange colored background makes those special pieces shine. That bit of rhinestone echoes the glittering snow-sprinkled ground, and brings out the brilliance of each posing beauty.

A sash brings a frosted detail to the gorgeous Sew Trendy gowns, whether it be for contrast like the pearl Venis sash in this dashing maternity session featuring a black Jessica gown, or for an ivory blend with the Emma dress. Rhinestone sashes add a classic embellishment to Fall photo sessions, and a bit of glamour to reflect the holiday season.

Boho and glam styles don’t have to be isolated from each other like M & M’s and Skittles. Mother-daughter sessions offer the chance to sport personality utilizing both themes. In these special moments, these mama’s donned rhinestones, while their charismatic kids did not.

Whatever the weather, Fall is the season of change. Maybe, that’s bringing home a new baby, or celebrating the next milestone in life. Whether you are a Boho-gal or a glamorous vixen, be bold with your style in your Fall photo session, and wear a piece that matches your personality.
