Get Glam for the Holidays!

‘Tis the time of year where snow has fallen, eggnog is pouring, and best dressed festivities are approaching. There’s nothing quite like the perfect hairdo, makeup, and dress for your upcoming holiday shenanigans. So, here are a few tips and tricks to shine at each party, and bring in the New Year with a bit of glamour.

Let’s start at the base, the main dish to your holiday styling is the dress. A cocktail dress is versatile enough to take you from the Christmas family get-together to the “Old Lang Syne” at the ball-drop. Whether your cocktail dress features a slouch top like the Jaeda, or a flirty hi-lo skirt, like the Kailynn, the cocktail style is always a knockout.

A shorter dress is a perfect canvas to show off your favorite accessories. Off-the-shoulder styles bring attention to a fabulous pair of earrings, while a sweetheart neckline compliments that heirloomnecklace; and, let’s not forget about that gorgeous knee-length fit that gives your best shoes the spotlight. From romantic lace to trendy slouch-tops, cocktail dresses offer opportunity to present your personality and awe the onlookers.

Sometimes, formalwear is required at an annual holiday dinner or work party. Again, it starts with the dress. Think elegant, show stopping floor length styles, now open your world to fabric choices. Whether you are looking for hints of exposed skin or full coverage sleeves, the options are endless. Draping sequin brings a soft glam aesthetic, while body hugging knit boosts confidence, proven by the stunning Emerlie dress. I’ve got a little spot in my heart where lace resides, maybe because lace is the figure-flattering fabric that drips romance and sensual appeal; or it could be because lace just makes you feel pretty when it lays across your skin (ahem, the Selena gown).

If you’re still on the fence about which fabric speaks to you, focus on the top style instead. Full chest coverage can offer professional allure, while a tank-style showcases a casual class.

Wearing a dress is about exploring the different sides of your persona, so play with it. Have a few looks in the closet and toggle through them as you see fit; just don’t stop exploring. If you’re still not sure what style to go with, I suggest an infinity top gown. These clever dresses convert to a trunk-full of looks, so you won’t have to fret over an immediate decision.
Now that you’ve nailed down the dress, which you may have picked specifically to go along with those awesome shoes you stalked for months at the department store, it’s time to look at hair and makeup.

Can we just cut straight to it? We all drool over that perfect Smokey eye, with those bushy black lashes. If you’ve got the chops to make it happen, do it. Go bold with your eyes to compliment the dress. If you don’t have the skills so many of us have tried to develop through YouTube tutorials, there’s always makeup services; a very worthwhile venture for a special night. For those of you who just “can’t even” with the heavy eye-makeup, remember neutral colors will never fail you in these cold seasons, and autumn hues make a big statement with minimal effort.

Oh, goodie, now for the hair. Make sure to leave extra time in your schedule for this part, because the hair is a make or break to your look. This winter those luscious locks are getting the full treatment with texture. Heavy waves, or messy kinks are the standouts this year; but, let’s say you didn’t heed my warning and the clock is ticking away before the Uber arrives. A low-bun in an intricate knot is a sexy and clean look, and a life-saver on a snowy day. Also, who doesn’t love that librarian style knot with a knee-length contoured skirt? Trust me, you can pull it off.

Last, but not least, you’ve got to stay warm. Nothing is more faux pas then standing outside shivering because you didn’t have the perfect coat to match your beautiful dress. I know it might be a quick trip from the door to the car, but don’t put yourself through frostbite for fashion. Especially, when fashion has options for you. I’ve said it before (no, really, there’s a whole blog about it), and I’ll say it again: Bolero jackets, fur capes and vests, infinity wraps, and scarves all exist for you to benefit from by keeping the goosebumps away. Plus, they take any look into a full-coverage piece, and that always comes back around.

Now, get out there and celebrate, looking fabulous the whole way through. Happy Holidays!
